YELTSIN TO QUERY CONSTITUTIONAL COURT’S RULING ON WAR BOOTY LAW.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 4 Issue: 72
Seleznev said after yesterday’s meeting that President Yeltsin will shortly sign into law the bill on trophy art that he had earlier vetoed. Last week, the Constitutional Court ruled that, because parliament had mustered enough votes to override Yeltsin’s veto, the president must now sign the bill into law. Yeltsin says, however, that he intends to appeal to the Constitutional Court against the substance of the bill which, the president claims, violates international law. (RTR, April 14)
