Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 81
The car of Ingushetia’s first deputy interior minister, Rashid Aushev, came under fire on a highway in Ingushetia’s Nazran district in the early hours of April 23, and Aushev and his driver were mortally wounded. (Interfax, April 23) Rashid Aushev is the cousin of Ingush president Ruslan Aushev, a fact which suggests that the attack may have been aimed against the president. Ali Ozdoev, an assistant to the Ingush president, told the Monitor that "investigators are not ruling out the possibility that the murder was committed by Chechen terrorists." Ozdoev rejected speculation that the murder was committed by the internal Ingush opposition.
