KGB GENERAL SEEKS U.S. GREEN CARD

Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 164

. Oleg Kalugin, a retired KGB counter-intelligence chief who turned on the agency publicly in the 1990’s, is seeking to become a permanent resident of the U.S. The Washington Post reported yesterday that it had learned from several retired CIA operatives of Kalugin’s efforts to get a green card. The operatives oppose the application and suggest that the CIA may be assisting Kalugin. An American associate of Kalugin’s charged, in turn, that an "unholy alliance" of former CIA and KGB officials have united to frustrate Kalugin’s efforts. (The Washington Post, September 4)
