VOTE FRAUD FOUND IN PAST RUSSIAN ELECTIONS.

Aleksandr Sobyanintold Izvestiya May 23 that Russian students of the elections had identifiedfraud in all previous Russian voting. He said that there were between 9 and 11million fraudulent ballots cast in the December 1993 voting. Such levels offraud–close to 20 percent of those voting–cast doubt on the fairness of anyfuture elections that may be held. Such fraud may represent an even greaterproblem next time due to a fall-off in participation. Russian pollster Yuri Levadatold the May 20 BWW that he did not expect more than 40 percent of eligiblevoters to take part in future parliamentary elections.
