A poll of residents in the Russian capital show that only 39 percent think that the upcoming parliamentary elections are “rather” or “very” important, Kuranty reported June 3. Expert opinion seems to be on their side: Academician Georgy Shakhnazarov, a longtime commentator on political life in Russia, told Moskovsky komsomolets June 3 that only the presidential elections would affect the life of the country in any significant way.
