TAJIKS LASH BACK AT MOSCOW.

Stung by increasing Russiancriticism of their government and its military, the Tajiks havedenounced Russian peacekeepers for neglecting safety precautions,getting in the way of local murder investigations, and lying aboutthe success rate of Tajik investigations into the murder of Russiansoldiers, Interfax reported June 28. Even more, the Tajiks saidthat they had discovered that an officer in the Russian peacekeepingforces–a man with the very unRussian name of Makhmadsharif Sharipov–hadled an underground terrorist group that had killed at least 20people. In recent weeks, Russian media have carried stories suggestingthat the Tajiks were not doing enough to defend themselves ortheir Russian protectors.
