CASH SHORTAGE CLOSES RUSSIAN MISSILE PLANT.

Because theRussian government has not sent the funds promised in this year’sbudget, the Russian missile plant at Votkinsk in the Middle Volgaregion of Udmurtiya will close until the end of July, Segodnyareported June 28. This plant, one of Russia’s largest andmost advanced, was inspected by American officials in 1989 aspart of the INF agreement. In a related development, defense ministryofficials said that the government had failed to supply some sixtrillion rubles to the military in the first half of 1995 andthat this shortfall had reduced the army’s ability to reform,Russian television reported June 29.
