Most Russian army officershave not been paid for two months, Trud reported July 5,and many of their wives are urging them to take more drastic actionto feed their children. Meanwhile, the Federation Council urgedthe government to give the interior ministry additional moneyto pay its workers, some of whom have not received any pay forfour months, Interfax reported July 9. And the news service addedthat the 5,000 Russian paratroopers sent to guard important sitesin Moscow have not been given the $2 a day in pocket money calledfor in the regulations–again, because the defense ministry hasno money.
