DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATIONS MAKE ANOTHER EFFORT TO UNITE.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 92
Representatives of a number of democratic parties, including Grigory Yavlinsky’s Yabloko, Irina Khakamada’s Common Cause, and Boris Fedorov’s Forward Russia! met in Moscow Sunday to discuss the creation of a reformist coalition against the Communist-patriotic bloc. Yelena Mizulina of Yabloko attended despite Yavlinsky’s denial of Yeltsin’s statement that the two were "uniting." (Reuters, Russian Television, May 12) (See "News and Perspective" item below) Mizulina told Reuters Yeltsin was "the most realistic single candidate," but that that did not mean Yavlinsky would drop out of the race. Details are yet to emerge of any decisions reached at the meeting.
