CRIME IN MOSCOW:
An anonymous source in the office of the federal prosecutor general told a reporter that Boris Berezovsky, one of Russia’s richest and most powerful men, faces imminent arrest. Federal police raided several of Berezovsky’s businesses earlier this month, in response to allegations that Berezovsky had arranged to bug members of the Yeltsin family to gather material for future blackmail operations. A group of Duma deputies in an open letter appealed to the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States to fire Berezovsky from his post as executive secretary of that organization. Berezovsky owes that job to President Yeltsin, who has not spoken out on his relations with the tycoon who helped finance his 1996 presidential campaign.
