In the wake of the recent inauguration of Chen Shui-bian as Taiwan’s president, the Jamestown Foundation is pleased to publish a special issue of the China Brief devoted exclusively to issues pertaining to Taiwan, and its relationship with China and the United States. Our distinguished contributors examine China’s reaction to President Chen’s inaugural remarks, the strategic dimensions of Washington’s relations with Taipei, Beijing’s increasing efforts to forge a united-front against Taiwan in Europe, and Taiwan’s diplomatic alliances in Latin America.
