The Duma has rejected a plan put forward by the reformist “Russia’s Choice” party to establish tighter parliamentary oversight on vote counts in the upcoming elections, Itar-Tass reported June 9. As a result, the government’s communications security organization, FAPSI, will handle the voting; because of FAPSI’s KGB roots, its handling of the elections will only add grist to the mill of those who believe that the vote will be less than honest.
