OSCE MISSION IN ESTONIA TO CONTINUE UNTIL DECEMBER.

The Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe office in Estonia will remain open until the end of the year, BNS reported June 14. That office was opened to monitor Estonia’s treatment of its ethnic Russian minority; many in Tallinn had expected the office to be closed because the OSCE and other international bodies have given Estonia high marks for its handling of the issue. But Russian foreign minister Andrei Kozyrev told the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities Max van der Stol June 14 that Moscow continued to be concerned about what he said was Estonian mistreatment of Russians, Russian radio reported. The same day, representatives of the Russian Officers Union and Union of Victims of Political Repression staged a demonstration in front of the foreign ministry building to demand Kozyrev do more for ethnic Russians abroad, Russian television reported.
