The Jamestown Foundation Welcomes Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili in New York

New York, NY — For Immediate Release

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili addressed the friends of the Jamestown Foundation at a special dinner event in New York on September 20th, the eve of his official address to the 59th UN General Assembly.

President Saakashvili acknowledged the contributions of the Jamestown Foundation, whose timely reporting and analysis have laid bare the threats to stability and democracy in Eurasia. Jamestown President Glen Howard welcomed the President’s words and applauded him for being "a hero to his people, a beacon of democracy to the region, and an important ally to the United States."

President Saakashvili’s candid remarks highlighted his country’s reform efforts following a decade of inept leadership, rampant corruption, and secessionist conflict. Senior fellow Vladimir Socor commented on President Saakashvili’s address in a recent article in Jamestown’s Eurasia Daily Monitor, "Failed State No More: Georgia’s President Addresses Jamestown Event".
