The popular independent newspaper Moskovsky komsomolets marked Lenin’s birthday by giving its front page over to nostalgic articles harking back to the past, including letters from readers complaining about the collapse of the Soviet Union and an interview with Yegor Ligachev (who used to be described as "the only real Marxist in Gorbachev’s Politburo"). But Pravda has a sense of humor too. In its April 12 issue, its weekly supplement spoofed the slogans the Communist party used to publish to mark May Day. "Fraternal greetings to the peoples of Russia, struggling for B. Yeltsin to be awarded the honorary title of Ex-President of the Russian Federation!" it proclaimed in a banner headline.
