The pattern of kidnappings is not, unfortunately, restricted to Chechnya. The Chechen National Salvation Committee’s website reported on November 26 that “unknown armed members of Russian power structures in masks and camouflage uniforms” had the previous day broken into a house being rented by the Sampiev family on Nizami Street in the Tsentr-Kamaz district of Nazran, Ingushetia’s main city, killing the head of the family and abducting his wife and two children. An unidentified young man thought to be a relative of the Sampievs and aged about 20, was severely beaten by the raiders after he came out of the house with his hands up. Sampiev’s wife was reportedly later released, although that was not confirmed. The reasons for the raid remain unknown.
