The Chechen Committee for National Salvation has lost its website, apparently to political pressures in Russia. In a January 22 press release, the pro-separatist body said that it had received an email message from its Russia-based Internet server (, informing its client that the website’s “anti-Russian” content was creating “serious complications” for the firm and would therefore be closed as of January 24. According to the Center for Journalism in Extreme Situations, Chechnya’s Council of Non-governmental Organizations, also a client of, received the same message. The Jamestown Foundation tried a few days later to view both websites ( and and found that they were indeed no longer functioning.
