Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 132

Belarusan authorities yesterday canceled the accreditation of the ORT state-controlled Russian television network’s Minsk correspondent, Pavel Sheremet. The authorities accused Sheremet, a Belarusan citizen, of providing "distorted" and "biased" coverage that "misinformed" the Russian and Belarusan audiences. In March, the Belarusan authorities canceled the accreditation of Russian NTV’s correspondent. President Alyaksandr Lukashenka has repeatedly attacked Russian media, particularly television networks, for their hard-nosed coverage of events in Belarus. (Russian and Western agencies, July 7-8)
