Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 186
Lithuanian president Algirdas Brazauskas announced last night on television that he will not seek another term in the upcoming presidential election. The decision, stunning for most of the public, had only been hinted at by a senior presidential adviser during the day. Also yesterday, the parliament’s special investigative commission forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for investigation the charges that parliament chairman Vytautas Landsbergis had allegedly collaborated with the KGB. The commission obliquely expressed doubt about the allegations. (International agencies, October 6-7)
