CHECHNYA….

Russian authorities in Chechnya arrested three persons for the murder of fourteen people in Grozny, the capital. Authorities said two other suspects were killed while resisting arrest. Most of the victims are said to be ethnic Russians. These murders are not to be confused with last month’s discovery not far from Grozny of scores of unburied bodies with broken kneecaps, missing teeth, missing fingers, ears and scalps…. Police also arrested three people in connection with three bombings in southern Russia that killed twenty-three and injured 120. Car bombs in three different cities exploded within half an hour on March 24; one bomb killed two policemen who had discovered the device and were attempting to defuse it. Authorities say the three suspects, whom they linked to a Chechen rebel commander, also carried out similar bombings last year.
