An official of the Russian Orthodox Church has added his voice to the Yeltsin administration’s campaign to remove Lenin from Red Square. Archpriest Gennady Geroev, a church spokesman, said yesterday that Lenin’s embalmed body is a "symbol of evil" and should be buried. (AP, June 17) Geroev said he was expressing his personal opinion, but he was echoing President Yeltsin’s statement of June 11 that the presence of Lenin’s tomb breaks the laws of the church by "turning Red Square into a cemetery."
