COMMUNISTS AGAIN TRY TO IMPEACH YELTSIN–THIS TIME, OVER BOSNIA.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 95

The Duma’s deputy speaker, communist Gennady Selesniev, said that his faction has resumed impeachment proceedings against Boris Yeltsin, citing as grounds for impeachment Yeltsin’s taking a leave of absence in Sochi instead of pursuing efforts to stop NATO military actions against the Serbs, as the Duma’s resolutions urged him to do. Yeltsin’s inaction had practically given the green light to NATO "genocide" against Serbs, Selesniev charged. In July, the Duma’s communists initiated another impeachment attempt, but the 190 votes they obtained at that time were not enough to launch the legal procedure. Agrarian party chairman Mikhail Lapshin also sharply criticized Yeltsin for going on vacation instead of carrying out the Duma’s mandate. Meanwhile Duma chairman Ivan Rybkin is also reported to be in Sochi with Yeltsin. (6)
