DUMA TO CONSIDER GOVERNMENT’S BUDGET PROPOSALS.

First Deputy Premier Anatoly Chubais warmly welcomed yesterday’s decision by the Russian Duma to delay its summer recess until June 24 in order to debate the government’s draft tax code and proposals for cuts in public spending. Earlier, the Duma had refused to consider the proposed budget revisions or the tax code, which Chubais has described as vital for the economy. (RTR, June 10) The Duma appears to have changed its mind after Yeltsin threatened to dissolve it and call fresh elections.
