DUMA WARNS AGAINST NATO ENLARGEMENT.

Russia’s Duma on October 25 issued an appeal to the U.N., the OSCE, the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly, and the North Atlantic Assembly, as well as to the parliaments of the CIS, Eastern European, and NATO countries that expressed profound concern over NATO’s planned enlargement. The appeal warned that enlargement might provoke a renewal of East-West confrontation and could cost Eastern European governments billions of dollars. (Itar-Tass, October 25)
