Sergei Stankevich, who in the late 1980s was one of the leading lights of the Soviet democratic movement, has been arrested in Warsaw and is expected to be extradited to Russia. Stankevich, who has been on the run for two years, is accused of accepting a $10,000 bribe in connection with an open-air concert in Red Square in July 1992. A former member of the Soviet parliament, he also served as deputy mayor of Moscow and adviser to President Boris Yeltsin. (Itar-Tass, April 20; Interfax, April 21)
