FOURTEEN REGIONAL BOSSES FAIL TO HAND IN THEIR INCOME DECLARATIONS.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 146
The bosses of 14 Russian regions have missed President Boris Yeltsin’s July 21 deadline for handing in their income declarations. They include the Altai krai’s Aleksandr Surikov (elected last year with Communist support), Kursk oblast’s Aleksandr Rutskoi, Pskov oblast’s Yevgeny Mikhailov (of Vladimir Zhirinovsky’s Liberal Democratic Party), Ulyanovsk oblast’s Yury Goryachev (a Communist) and Volgograd oblast’s Nikolai Maksyuta (also Communist). Yeltsin’s deadline was only advisory and the governors cannot be punished if they fail to comply. (RIA-Novosti, July 26)
