FSB ANTITERRORIST SESSION HELD.

On January 24, at the Russian military base in Khankala, Chechnya, FSB director Nikolai Patrushev chaired a session of the operations group in charge of the current “antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus.” Taking part in the session were: Viktor Kazantsev, Russian presidential envoy to the Southern Federal District; General Gennady Troshev, commander of the North Caucasus Military District; Vladimir Elagin, minister for socioeconomic development in Chechnya; General Vladimir Moltenskoi, commander of the Combined Group of Russian Forces in Chechnya; Akhmad Kadyrov, head of the pro-Moscow civilian administration in Chechnya; Stanislav Il’yasov, premier of the pro-Moscow government in Chechnya; Sergei Babkin, head of the FSB department for Chechnya; Said-Salim Peskhoev, head of the Interior Ministry Department for Chechnya; and chief Chechen prosecutor Vsevolod Chernov. The goal today, Patrushev underscored during the meeting, is “to liquidate the rebel groups completely” (Interfax, January 24).
