YegorGaidar, the leader of the Democratic Choice of Russia electoralbloc, has sparked a media scandal with a letter he and party coordinatorArkady Murashov have sent to potential contributors, Russian radioreported August 28. What has infuriated many Russians is thatGaidar makes explicit what contributors will get for any givenlevel of contribution: Those giving 50 million rubles will beallowed to participate in the party’s closed meetings, those giving100 million will be allowed to participate in important decision-making,and those giving 500 million rubles will be able to specify justwhat decisions they want. Gaidar put the blame for this pricelist on Murashov.
