President and Commander-in-Chief Boris Yeltsin yesterday awarded Marshal Stars to four men: Federal Security Service Director Mikhail Barsukov, First Deputy Defense Minister and Armed Forces’ Chief of Staff General Mikhail Kolesnikov, Internal Affairs Minister Anatoly Kulikov, and Federal Border Service Director Andrei Nikolayev. The ceremony was held at the Barvikha sanatorium where Yeltsin is recuperating from a heart ailment. The four generals had been promoted to four-star rank in November; the Marshal Star is a special decoration for top-ranking commanders. Two Russian Army Generals — Defense Minister Pavel Grachev and his deputy, Inspector of the Armed Forces Konstantin Kobets — have already received Marshal Stars. (8)
