GEORGIA….

In a surprise operation last winter, Russian airborne troops seized Pichvni, a Georgian village near the border with Chechnya. Georgia protested, and the dispute dragged on.

Control of the village is now moot. The Moscow daily Segodnya reports that Russian troops “inadvertently” burned the place down in a training maneuver. The villagers have joined the thousands of Georgian refugees created by Russian military operations in Georgia over the past decade.
