GERMAN COMPANY LEAPS INTO UZBEKISTAN.

The Salamander company, Germany’s leading producer of medium-priced shoes, has established its second joint venture in Uzbekistan and is preparing a third. Over the weekend it was announced that Salamander and Uzbekistan’s light industry ministry have founded a factory in Chirchik, Tashkent region. It will have an annual production capacity of 330,000 pairs of children’s shoes. The partners’ first venture, launched less than one year ago, is located in Ferghana. The third is due to be established soon in Kokand. (Interfax, November 10)
