Mayor Luzhkov held a publicized meeting with former Prime Minister Yevgeny Primakov, whom polls show to be still the most popular political figure in the country. Luzhkov’s political movement, Fatherland, has invited Primakov to head its party list in the December parliamentary elections…. Under Primakov, the government tried to break Berezovsky’s empire, raiding his enterprises and threatening him with arrest. The charges against Berezovsky mostly vanished like the dew with Primakov’s dismissal, but an investigation of moneylaundering by one of Berezovsky’s Swiss companies is still active, at least in Switzerland.
