HANGING TEN:

Even as the strike wave subsides, the Communist Party is trying to catch the surf. The Presidium of the Central Committee appealed to “all those who hold the fate of the Motherland dear” to prepare for a nationwide strike to demand “the resignation of the president and the formation of a government of popular trust.” The move seems intended to horn in on and politicize a national trade-union protest of wage arrears and falling living standards tentatively scheduled for October 7. The unions are not pleased.
