Georgian investigators announced August 31 the discovery of a weapons cache in the parliamentary office of opposition deputy Jaba Ioseliani, leader of the Mkhedrioni paramilitary organization, local media reported. However, Ioseliani has still not been formally implicated in the assassination attempt. Ten suspects had been arrested the previous day, and Georgian security chief Igor Georgadze said that additional suspects had been identified. Elsewhere, presidents Levon Ter-Petrosian of Armenia and Heydar Aliyev of Azerbaijan, both of whom face similar domestic risks, condemned the assassination attempt and any use of terrorist and violent methods.
