LEBED SEES LUZHKOV AS POTENTIAL ALLY.

Back in Moscow after a visit to the U.S., Aleksandr Lebed told Russian TV that he sees Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov as a potential ally in the event of a presidential contest. (RTR, November 24) This is the second time Lebed has made such a statement. The two men are united in their hatred of presidential aide Anatoly Chubais. But Luzhkov, who has presidential ambitions of his own and who has called Lebed’s peacemaking in Chechnya a betrayal of Russian interests, has not commented on the possibility of an alliance.
