Giving the lie to rumors spread by several pro-Putin websites, journalist Boris Kagarlitsky noted that he had just interviewed Chechen separatist leader Aslan Maskhadov and thus determined that the Chechen president is in fact alive, not dead. The interview with Maskhadov will appear in one of the next issues of Novaya Gazeta (GZT.ru, September 8).
