An unnamed senior Russian diplomat said yesterday that Moscow continues to back the reelection of Boutros Boutros-Ghali as UN secretary-general and may veto any other candidate put forward. The U.S., which has vigorously opposed Boutros-Ghali’s reappointment, vetoed his candidature earlier this week. (Interfax, November 21)
