MOSCOW-BAGHDAD GERM WARFARE DEAL REPORTED.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 4 Issue: 29

The Washington Post reported this morning that last fall United Nations inspectors in Iraq discovered and seized a document that might constitute evidence of a Moscow-Iraqi germ warfare deal. The inspectors consider the document to be evidence of a 1995 agreement by the Russian government to sell Iraq sophisticated fermentation equipment that could be used to develop biological weapons. Such a transaction would have violated a UN-authorized embargo on sales to Iraq of such sensitive materials.
