MOSCOW LAMENTS WESTERN VIEWS ON CHECHNYA.
Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 151
In an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Russian foreign minister Yevgeny Primakov complained that some Western leaders refuse to accept that actions by Chechen rebels are terrorist in nature. Primakov cites as an example the recent bus bomb blasts in Moscow. (Reuter, Itar-Tass, August 1) In fact, it has not been established that the bomb attacks were committed by the Chechen resistance. Primakov’s remarks suggest that G-7 leaders who met recently in Paris to discuss terrorism were not convinced by Russia’s characterization of the war in Chechnya.
