The Russian defense ministry announced that Riga’s plans to blow up part of the radar site at Skrunda violated Moscow’s agreement with Latvia because such an explosion could damage the remaining parts of the complex which Moscow will operate for three more years, Segodnya reported April 29. Nevertheless, the Latvian government said it would proceed with the destruction of what Latvians call the “Skrunda monster” on May 4.
