Only 5.1 percent of Russians believethat talent and hard work can bring wealth; 44.2 percent saidthat speculation was a more likely route, and 20.4 percent identifiedmoney laundering as a way to get rich. Even those who have becomewealthy tend to agree with this assessment: 18.3 percent of entrepreneurssaid that criminal money plays a big role in their lives, and40 percent of the self-identified new rich said they had engagedin illegal activities on the way up.
