NEW COMMISSION TO HANDLE RUSSIA’S RELATIONS WITH CHECHNYA.

President Yeltsin has set up a new state commission and charged it with coordinating federal policy toward Chechnya. Headed by Deputy Prime Minister Ramazan Abdulatipov, who has responsibility for ethnic affairs in the government, the commission appears set to take over much of the responsibility for policy toward Chechnya that was handled by the Security Council until Yeltsin’s abrupt dismissal of Boris Berezovsky last week.
