OSCE OBSERVATION POST REOPENED.

Publication: North Caucasus Weekly Volume: 2 Issue: 23

International observers from the OSCE mission in Georgia have reopened their observation post in the Georgian mountain village of Girevi on the border with Chechnya. The post was temporarily closed for the winter. During the winter, only two monitoring posts were open on the Chechen section of the Georgian-Russian border: one in Omalo and the other in Shatili. The Chechen section of the border will now be monitored by thirty-nine observers from the OSCE. Their mandate has been extended until November 15, 2001 (Itar-Tass, June 3).
