Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov became the most recent presidential hopeful to call for President Yeltsin’s resignation. “The president himself must say, ‘… because of my poor health I am no longer able to give the country as much time as a president should,'” Luzhkov told the BBC. Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov and Krasnoyarsk Governor Aleksandr Lebed have also called on Yeltsin to step down.
