Publication: Monitor Volume: 3 Issue: 184

Consumer price inflation fell by 0.3 percent in Russia in September. This is the sharpest drop in inflation since Russia’s economic reforms got under way in January 1992. Lower prices for fruit and vegetables were the main cause. The State Statistics Committee said consumer prices fell in 58 of Russia’s 89 regions. The largest fall was reported in the Ust-Orda Buryat Autonomous okrug (a drop of 2.2 percent), followed by Chita, Magadan and Samara oblasts (drops of between 1.3 and 1.7 percent). In August this year, prices fell by 0.1 percent. (Itar-Tass, October 2)
