Publication: North Caucasus Weekly Volume: 3 Issue: 6
On February 5, it was learned that a group of pro-Moscow Chechen police had been taken into custody. Eight Chechen employees of the local department of police had attempted to hinder the efforts of Russian soldiers while they were conducting a special operation in the village of Starye Atagi. According to the pro-Moscow prosecutor of Chechnya, Vsevolod Chernov, the eight policemen had “tried to free suspicious persons who had already been taken into custody for interrogation.” The eight policemen face prison sentences ranging from three to seven years (Izvestia and Kolokol.ru, February 6).
