Russia exported 46 milliontons of oil in the first six months of 1995, four million tonsmore than in the same period last year, fuel and energy ministerYuri Shafrannik told Itar-Tass July 24. The minister added thatRussia plans to continue to increase its exports and thus to compete"with any Western company in any part of the globe." In a related development, the deputy director of Rosneft, theRussian state oil company, said that Moscow must insist that theCaspian sea be exploited jointly by all littoral states, Interfaxreported July 19. Edmar Dragunov said that Moscow should viewthe oil equipment now used by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistanas Russian property.
