RUSSIA VIOLATES LITHUANIAN SOVEREIGNTY.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 1 Issue: 38

A special Lithuanian government commission has documented Russian violations of Lithuanian airspace, BNS reported June 22. Between April 1992 and May 1995, foreign–and overwhelmingly Russian–planes violated the country’s airspace 5339 times. 3018 of these violations came from flights originating in Kaliningrad. The commission also noted that in the period December 1994-March 1995 some 2148 rail cars had carried military equipment across Lithuanian territory from Kaliningrad to Russia proper. While these cars had official clearance, the commission noted, much of the materiel was dangerous and was probably used in Chechnya.
