Russia warned on Tuesday that if NATO were to expand to include the Baltic countries, such a move would force Moscow to strengthen its defenses and take economic steps. "Everybody in Europe says they have no enemies anymore, so why is it so important to extend NATO?" Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Krylov asked at the Fourth Parliamentary Conference of the Nordic Council on Co-operation in the Baltic Area. Krylov did not specify what economic and military measures Russia might have in mind.
