RUSSIAN FLOATING NUCLEAR PLANT.

Publication: Monitor Volume: 2 Issue: 123

Construction of the world’s first floating nuclear power plant is currently underway in Russia and could be completed by the year 2001, a leading nuclear specialist said in Moscow this week. Although environmentalists have pointed to the project with alarm, the specialist suggested that Russia might build as many as fifteen of such plants to supply energy to inaccessible regions in the far eastern and extreme northern parts of the country. Russia is also exploring marketing the plants abroad. (IPS, June 25)
